The aircraft, carrying passengers and crew from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, plummeted into a densely populated residential neighborhood, exploding into a fireball that consumed buildings and vehicles in seconds.
“It appears there are no survivors in the plane crash,” Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik told reporters grimly. “Some locals would have also died,” he added, noting the plane hit residential structures.
A Flight That Turned Into a Nightmare
Video footage captured by residents shows the aircraft taking off normally.... then suddenly dipping nose-down and crashing into buildings. The explosion was immediate. Within seconds, thick black smoke rose high above the city skyline.
Before the crash, the pilot made a “Mayday” distress call, signaling serious trouble shortly after liftoff. What exactly went wrong is still unknown, but investigators say flight data recorders and black box recovery will be key.
“It’s too early to say if this was mechanical failure or human error,” said one aviation expert. “But such a quick crash after takeoff points to a catastrophic event.”
Victims Onboard and On the Ground
Flight 171 had 231 passengers and 11 crew members. Officials believe everyone on board perished. Emergency services were still assessing how many people were impacted on the ground, but with the crash site located in a busy Ahmedabad neighborhood, multiple homes and vehicles were destroyed.
